Soprano Agnes Kovacs was born in Budapest and comes from a family of musicians. After studying conducting at the Franz Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest, where she graduated with honors in 2003, she studied voice with Heidrun Kordes at the Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts, for which she was awarded the Hungarian State Eötvös Scholarship. She supplemented her studies with master classes with Anna Reynolds, Walter Moore, Beata Heuer-Christen, Helen Donath, Edith Wiens, Nancy Argenta, Anna Korondi and Jonathan Alder.
Agnes Kovacs has worked with conductors such as Howard Armann, Ivor Bolton, Olof Boman, Jonathan Cohen, Ivan Fischer, Aapo Häkkinen, Thomas Hengelbrock, Nicolas McGegan, Riccardo Minasi, Helmuth Rilling, Christoph Rousset, Michael Schneider, Steven Sloane, György Vashegyi, and Duncan Ward. She has performed with orchestras such as the Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin, Balthasar Neumann Ensemble, Berliner Philharmoniker, B`Rock Orchestra, Festival Orchestra Budapest, Konzerthausorchester Berlin, NDR Sinfonieorchester, MDR Sinfonieorchester, Orchestra of the Hungarian Radio and the Orfeo Orchestra Budapest. Guest engagements have already taken the soprano to renowned festivals such as the Musikfest Berlin, the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival, the Rheingau Music Festival and the Budapest Spring Festival. Her chamber music partners include outstanding artists such as Malcolm Bilson and the lied pianist Hilko Dumno.
Since 2018 she has been involved in numerous CD releases as soloist.
She lives with her husband and 3 children in Wuppertal.
